Roberts Tabernacle had its first ever “We Care” Community Event. Services were provided, such as a Free Yard Sale, Free Car Washes, Free Oil Changes, Free Food Boxes, Free Haircuts, Free Toys, Free Help with Resumes for job applicants and advice on job interviews, and lots of free refreshments for the day.
The youth washed approximately 35 cars. The men changed oil in 22 to 25 cars, exceeding their initial limit. Two ladies did 43 haircuts. Fifty to sixty grocery boxes were prepared and distributed, not including the many refreshments that were served. One or two individuals obtained help with their resumes. Many children participated in the games, face-painting, helium balloons and stuffed animal prizes. And, many people received free books, cds, tapes, clothing, furniture, toys, electronic items, dishes, appliances, ceiling fans, light fixtures, and shoes from the yard sale. We had very little left over compared to how much we had when we began, and the remaining items were donated to Gallatin Cares. A great big thanks to Sonya Troutt for arranging the pickup and delivery of those boxes.
It was such a blessing to see people receiving free services and items they needed. I heard one man remark that it was just like Christmas. How wonderful it is that giving reminded him of the season that we celebrate the birth of the greatest gift of love ever given — Jesus Christ.
A special thanks to the many businesses that donated items to the event including Sarah Lee Bread, Frito Lay Chips, Mike’s Food Value, O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, Ted Mandrell’s business in Westmoreland, and any other that I may right now not remember. A special thanks also to church members and friends who donated time, money, and other in-kind donations to make the event possible. Please continue to pray for those who participated Saturday and those who came and received help that they will turn to Jesus if they do not know Him and grow closer to Him if they do.
